Learning outcomes
Learning outcomes: Preparing the doctoral student to use a professional foreign language within the scope of their particular specialisation, which is the focus of their doctoral studies. Acquisition and development of skills for working with scientific text - reading comprehension and translation. In the context of oral communication, the acquisition of the ability to present relevant specialised topics within the doctoral student's specialisation and to discuss conversational topics set by the Department of Languages.
Course outline
Brief outline of the course: 100 pages of scientific text within the doctoral student's field Conversational topics: Specialised topics: 1. My workplace 8 topics within the doctoral student's field 2. Doctoral studies 3. Conferences 4. Study abroad 5. Projects 6. The labour market and my career 7. Research and development 8. Science, technology and the environment
Completion conditions
Assessment and completion of the course: Examination Continuous assessment: Individual consultations Learning outcome 1: The doctoral student independently studies, consults and translates a 100-page scientific text focused on their specialization. Form of education – Individual work and consultation with a language teacher Method of verification: Oral verification of the translation Learning outcome 2: The doctoral student also develops 8 conversational and 8 professional topics related to his professional text. Form of education – Individual work and consultation with a language teacher Method of verification: oral verification of the developed conversational and specialised topics. Final assessment: Student passes the final assessment and passes the examination when he or she meets the requirement to obtain at least 51% out of 100%. Course completion requirements: examination (in front of a two-member committee) 1. short PowerPoint presentation of the doctoral thesis topic 2. reading and translation of a selected part of a 100-page scientific text 3. random selection of one of the 8 conversation topics 4. random selection of one of the 8 specialised topics formulated by the doctoral student Overall assessment: Overall assessment is the sum of the assessments obtained by students in the assessment period. The overall result is determined in accordance with the internal regulations of the Technical University in Košice. (Study Regulations, the internal regulation principles of doctoral studies)
