Learning outcomes
This course provides a close connection between the curriculum and practice in preparing students for the CCNP Switch industry certification exam (642-813 SWITCH - Implementing Cisco IP Switched Networks). The student will be introduced to the design of large-scale network infrastructures with an emphasis on switching issues at various layers of the network model. The student will learn about virtual networks (VLANs), routing between VLANs, the use of wide area wireless networks, and configuration techniques that are used in the design of real-world WAN solutions.
Course outline
1. Introduction to the concept of building switched networks. 2. Virtual networks and their implementation : fundamentals. 3. Implementation aspects of Spanning Tree Algorithm I. 4. Implementation aspects of Spanning Tree Algorithm II. 5. The concept of routing between VLANs. 6. Network solutions with short response time. 7. Wireless networking technologies and their use. 8. Design of network solutions based on wireless technologies. 9. Configuration aspects of using WLAN devices. 10. Voice over IP networks. 11. Methods of secure traffic in IP networks I. 12. Methods of secure traffic in IP networks II.
Completion conditions
Assessment and completion of the course: Credit test and examination Continuous assessment: Student passes the continuous assessment and receives credits when he or she meets the requirement to obtain at least 21% out of 40%. Continuous tests will be carried out to verify the acquired knowledge. During the semester, students will work on assignments on the subject. Final assessment: Student passes the final assessment and passes the examination when he or she meets the requirement to obtain at least 31% out of 60%. A minimum of 51% on the interim assessment and 51% on the final test will be required to pass the course. The overall grade will be determined by the total number of points earned on the midterm assessment and the final test score. Overall assessment: Overall assessment is the sum of the assessments obtained by students in the assessment period. The overall result is determined in accordance with the internal regulations of the Technical University in Košice. (Study Regulations, the internal regulation principles of doctoral studies)
